Make a choice. Follow its implications. Reconsider what you believe.
These interactive experiences bring philosophical questions into the hands of learners. Explore them on your own or use them to start a classroom conversation.
How should we assess the moral performance of AI systems? My research explores alignment, moral agency, and wide reflective equilibrium.
II.
AI as accommodation
How can AI remove barriers and scaffold learning? I examine the responsibilities educators have to support students while keeping learning central.
III.
Learning through experience
How can students encounter an idea rather than only read about it? I develop learning simulations and approaches to assignment-specific AI use.
04 / ABOUT MATTHEW
A philosopher with one foot in the classroom.
Philosophy belongs wherever consequential decisions are being made.
I’m an Associate Professor of Philosophy at High Point University in North Carolina, where I teach ethics and explore the relationship between technology, education, and human judgment.
My work moves between philosophical research, public writing, and classroom experimentation. I’m interested in what AI makes possible—and what we owe one another as those possibilities become part of everyday life.
I also chair the HBS Artificial Intelligence Committee at HPU.
